Ruth Meyer

Ruth M. Kaiser Meyer, 93, of Greensburg, formerly of Madison and Aurora, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at The Waters of Batesville.

She was born May 22, 1923, in Dover to Andrew Charles and Susan Barker Kaiser. She was raised in Dover. She graduated from Guilford High School and later attended secretarial school. She was raised in St. John Catholic Church, which is now All Saints Church. She sold Avon for many years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Aurora, where she resided for 55 years. She lived in Madison from 1997 to 2013 and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising violets and orchids, reading, raising canaries, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Ryan of Seabrook Island, S.C., Paula A. Meyer Shaw of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Carla Meyer Stillwell of Madison; one son, John A. Meyer of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Meyer, whom she married Feb. 8, 1943, and who died Dec. 7, 1997; two sons, Mark Andrew Meyer, who died Sept. 24, 1987, and James W. Meyer, who died June 20, 2002; her father, who died in 1986; and her mother, who died in 1974.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg. Burial will be in River View Cemetery in Aurora.

Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service. A prayer service will be held at the conclusion of Tuesday’s visitation at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Friends of Shawe and Pope John or the St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund. Contributions can be made at the church or through Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, which is in charge of local arrangements.

James Rabourn

James R. “J.R.” Rabourn, 84, of Bedford, Ky., died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Baptist Health in La Grange, Ky.

He was born May 26, 1932, in Turners Station, Ky., to Marvin B. and Alice Catherine Craigmyle Rabourn. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer. He had worked for Harris Farm at Dow Corning in Carrollton, Ky. and was a former school bus driver for Carroll County Schools. He was a member of the English Baptist Church. He enjoyed country music and writing poetry. He wrote articles for the Louisville Courier-Journal and other publications.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Faye Stangle Rabourn, whom he married on Jan. 19, 1957; four daughters, Deborah Geisler and Rita Damrell, both of Turners Station, Ky., and Susan Beach and Lesa Barr, both of Carrollton, Ky.; one son, Steve Rabourn of Bedford, Ky.; one sister, Grace May of Wauseon, Ohio; one brother, David Rabourn of Turners Station, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jewell Kidwell, Thelma Myers and Gladys Schaeffer; one brother, L.G. “Buster” Rabourn; and one grandson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Ky.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
