Paul Koerner

Paul E. Koerner, 83, of Madison, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Indianapolis, the son of Louis and Josephine Reutenburgh Koerner. He was raised in Indianapolis. He was a 1947 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. He worked with Stark & Wetzler in Indianapolis in assembling and manufacturing. He also worked for Barney's in Indianapolis as a watchmaker and in life insurance sales in Indianapolis. He owned and operated Key West Shrimp House with his wife for 47 years from 1958 to 2005. He was a member of the St. Roch Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He enjoyed playing pool, chess, guitar, cards and learning new things.

He is survived by three sons, Steve Koerner of Indianapolis, Scott J. Koerner of Hanover, and Chris Koerner of Madison; three daughters, Paula Davidson of Freeport, Ill., Sherry Compton of Indianapolis, and Laurie Hibbitt of Carmel; two sisters, Mildred Stafford of Greenwood, and Mary Reilly of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia L. "Pat" Wood Koerner, whom he married Nov. 5, 1949, and who died Dec. 28, 2009; his parents; and two brothers, Lou Koerner and James Koerner.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and on Monday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hospice of King's Daughters'. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
