Beau Bailey

Beau Geste Bailey, 86, of Madison, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 26, 1930 in Bel Air, Md., to Camton and Lena Russel Bailey. He was a 1948 graduate of Dublin High School in Maryland. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1953. He retired in 1996 from the former Regal Rugs in North Vernon. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed construction, woodworking and remodeling homes.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Bailey of Butlerville and Michael Bailey of Angleton, Texas; two daughters, Susan Bailli of Madison and Ann Jones of North Vernon; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora Pitts Bailey, whom he married Aug. 6,1960, and who died April 3, 2010; his parents; two brothers, Joe Bailey and Kyle Bailey; and one sister, Georgia Knight.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Burial will be at a later date in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jennings County.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 p.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Our Hospice of Jennings County or Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Herbert Bernstein

Herbert Bernstein, 83, of Madison, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, in Madison.

He was born in Montreal, Canada, to Hyman and Minnie Bernstein. He began playing the trumpet while in high school and was in the Canadian Grenadier Guards military band for 17 years. He was also an aviator and flying instructor, first at Sir George Williams University in Montreal, which became Concordia University, and then in Peace River, Alberta. He moved to Madison in 1997. He enjoyed traveling and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Karin Bernstein; one daughter, Anne; one son, Morris; one granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at 1909 Fox Trails.

Burial was Aug. 18 in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Red Cross.



Jean Dean


Jean Reynolds Dean, 96, of Carrollton, Ky., died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, in Lexington, Ky.

She was born March 7, 1921, in Lexington, Ky., to Henry Edward and Inez Wheeler Reynolds. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and did post-graduate work at Michigan State University and Columbia University.

She is survived by two children, Doug and Roberta; one brother, Warren Reynolds; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Stanley Dean; her parents; one brother, Henry; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Carrollton Christian Church.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service.
