Ronald “Ron” Lee Bruther, 76, of Madison died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Kenny Darbro

Paul Kenneth “Kenny” Darbro, 69 of Madison died Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Baptist Health Louisville in Louisville.

He was born June 4, 1949, in Madison, the son of Roy and Norma L. Dilts Darbro. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, and graduated from the Vevay High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after one year of college, serving until his honorable discharge. After his service in the Air Force, he served in the Air Force Reserves and the Indiana National Guard. He began a career in manufacturing, working for the U.S. Shoe Corporation, Batesville Casket Company, and finally retiring from Reliance Electric after 30-plus years. He was a longtime sports fan, cheering on the Madison Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. He is fondly remembered for his generosity working with various veterans’ organizations and charities, and for his warm smile and friendly conversation on the bench at Walmart.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Hite Darbro of Madison, whom he married March 9, 1973; one son, Roy Darbro of Madison; one daughter, Deanna Higbie of Madison; his mother; four sisters, Beanie Driver of East Enterprise, Indiana, Jill Darbro of Madison, Jo Webster, Debbie Simpson and Billie Kuhen, all of Vevay; two brothers, Larry Darbro of Florence, Indiana, and Bobby Darbro of Vevay; three stepbrothers, Fred Earls of Madison, Mike Earls of Lakeland, Florida, and Bill Earls of Fayetteville, Ohio; one stepsister, Sharon Hansell of Vevay; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, John J. Earls and three brothers, Charles Denver Darbo, Melvin Gayle Darbro, and Gary Ray Darbro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m and Wednesday from noon until the service.

Full military honors will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday by the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Kenny Darbro Remembrance Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home.
