Shirley Doll

Shirley Jean Caudle Doll, 69, of Turners Station, Kentucky, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

She was born Oct. 30, 1949, in Henry County, Kentucky, the daughter of Russell Caudle and Elizabeth Aldridge Caudle-Payton. She was a graduate of Henry Central High School in Henry County, Kentucky. She had retired from Kroger Grocery Co. in Carrollton, where she worked in the produce department. She was a member of Turners Station Baptist Church. She enjoyed raising her pets.

She is survived by her husband, James Doll of Turners Station; one son, Jamie Edward Doll of Caryville, Tennessee; one sister, Joan Ellis of Eminence, Kentucky; one brother, Randy Caudle of New Castle, Kentucky; one half brother, Jeffery Caudle of New Mexico; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

Visitation will be at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mary Huston

Mary Elizabeth Huston, 89, of Madison died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at her home.

She was born June 13, 1929, in Trimble County, Kentucky, the daughter of Oather Paul and Nannie Bryant Maddox Hamilton. She was a psychiatric attendant for Madison State Hospital for more than 35 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Lucas of Madison and Rose Whitson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; one brother, Oather “Jack” Hamilton of Louisville; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William “Billy” Hamilton.

There will be private services with burial to follow in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky.

Pete Purnell

David Eugene “Pete” Purnell, 66, of Vevay died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 19, 1952, in Switzerland County, the son of Eddie B. and Jean Marie Hall Purnell. He was raised in Switzerland County, where he was a 1970 graduate of Switzerland County High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army National Guard May 16, 1986, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant May 15, 1987. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Oct. 22, 1970, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant July 24, 1973, at Fort Benjamin in Indianapolis. He worked as a truck driver for various companies for several years. He also farmed on the family farm for several years in Switzerland County. He was a member of Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, socializing with his family and friends, cooking and tinkering on cars and motorcycles.

He is survived by his children, Sherry Jones, Destiny Purnell, and Charles Purnell, all of Indianapolis, Preston Purnell of Florence, Kentucky, Blake Purnell and Justin Purnell, both of Florence, Indiana; one brother, Eddie Carroll Purnell of Columbus, Indiana; sisters, Mary L. Heath of Madison and Judy L. Ritch of Tupelo, Mississippi; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Ann “Trisha” Purnell, who died June 18, 2017.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison with full military rites conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and Vevay VFW Post #5396.

Visitation will be at the funeral home will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service.
