Marina Lohrig
Marina J. “Mary Jo” Dattilo Lohrig, 88, of Madison, Indiana, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at the Hickory Creek at Madison.


She was born March 15, 1931, in Madison, to Anthony J. Dattilo Jr. and Mary A. Cianciolo Dattilo, the oldest of six children in a close-knit Italian, Catholic household. She attended St. Mary’s grade school, graduated from Madison High School in 1948, and attended college at Our Lady of Cincinnati.


She was a bookkeeper in her family’s A. Dattilo Fruit Company before 34 years of public service for Madison Jefferson County from 1964 to 1994, where she was elected Jefferson County Clerk of the Circuit Court from 1979-1983 and then served as deputy clerk for many years, deputy auditor, and office manager for the City of Madison’s Street Department. She was a lifelong Democrat and former treasurer for the Democrat Women’s Club. She was a Jefferson County delegate for the first and second Presidential Inaugurations of Bill Clinton. After retiring, she maintained a deep interest in politics and current affairs and continued to help with absentee voting and campaigning for the party.


She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, attended daily rosary service, was a member of the Ladies Organization, served on the funeral committee and volunteered to clean St. Patrick’s Church. She lived for many years on Hatcher Hill and wintered in Nokomis, Florida, for 10 years where she enjoyed the sunshine, reading and watching MSNBC and political news. She also enjoyed socializing with the Red Hatters of Madison and Nokomis.


Survivors include her daughters, Connie Combs and Joey Kring, both of Madison; her sisters and brothers, Clarita Wesbecker, Tony Dattilo, Donna Jackson and Leonard Dattilo, all of Madison, and Thomas Dattilo of Louisville; and three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Ronald “Ronnie” Edward Lohrig, on Aug. 6, 2012; an infant son, Ronald Edward Lohrig Jr. in 1961; and a niece and nephew.


Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in downtown Madison. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in downtown Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.


The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
