Tommy Gross

Charles Thomas “Tommy” Gross, 47, of Hanover, Indiana, died Monday, June 8, 2020, in the Emergency Room at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

He was born Jan. 4, 1973, in Madison, to Charles Edward Kinman and Mary Louise Wray Kinman Owens. He lived all of his life in Jefferson County and was a 1992 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He loved participating in Special Olympics for many years, worked at Sandstone Industries for many years and the past four years at Royer Corporation in the printing department. He loved fishing, arts, crafts, bowling, bingo, basketball and going with the Venture Crew.

Survivors include his sisters, Regina Kinman and Diana Phillips, both of Madison, Cindy Mardello of Hanover and Mary Jo Owens of Laurel, Indiana; a brother, Frank Owens Jr. of Madison; his companion, Amber Griffin of Madison; and six nieces and nephews, a great nephew and several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Frank A. Owens Sr. in 1987.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Bud Horine

Nelson Leon “Bud” Horine, 78, of Madison, Indiana, died Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at his home in Madison.

He was born Feb. 22, 1942, near Saluda in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Lawrence Russell and Eunice Pearl Bibb Horine. He was raised a Christian in the New Prospect Baptist Church, was a 1960 graduate of Saluda High School and attended Ball State University. He was a lifelong restauranteur, owning and operating the Steer Restaurant for 29 years, and founding the ETC. Cafeteria before serving as manager of food operations at Clifty Inn for 10 years. He loved food and enjoyed golf and tennis including annual golfing trips to Guntersville, Alabama. He held memberships in the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524 and the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Dottie S. “Junior” Vawter Horine, of Madison; his son, Greg Horine of Noblesville, Indiana; his daughters, Bethe A. Beaver of Noblesville, Julie Horine of Fishers, Indiana and Lisa Gemmer of Avon, Indiana; his bonus son, Brian Kimmel of Parker, Colorado; his bonus daughter, Jill McEldowney of Fishers; his brothers, Dr. Randall Horine of Indianapolis and Lawrence Stacey Horine of Madison; his sisters, Ruby Nichols, Janet Taff and Regina Kalb all of Madison; and 17 grandchildren, an aunt and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Private interment will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
