Vonda McGuire

Vonda Jean McGuire, 66, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

She was born on June 3, 1953, in Newport News, Virginia, to William Carroll Jones and Lillian Hunter Jones. She was a custodian at Cartmell Elementary School in Carrollton, a former custodian at Carroll County Memorial Hospital and had worked as a sitter at Ms. Karen’s Pre-School. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cooking, photography, oil painting and drawing.

She is survived by three sons: Bryan McGuire of Sanders, Kentucky, Jeff McGuire of Carrollton, and Michael McGuire of Ghent, Kentucky; two brothers; Larry Jones of Carrollton and Lonnie Jones of New Castle, Kentucky; her mother, Lillian Hunter Warfield of Carrollton, and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; her first husband, Gerald Wayne McGuire, and her second husband, Roy Lee Hicks.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She chose cremation and asked that her ashes buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton immediately after her service.

Memorial gifts may take the form of contributions to the American Stroke Association in care of the funeral home.

Doreen Taylor

Doreen Thomas Rogers Taylor, 63, of Vevay, Indiana, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati.

She was born March 19, 1956, in Madison, Indiana, to Vernon Ellis and Jean Ritch Thomas. She grew up near Florence, Indiana, where she attended school. She was employed by the US Shoe Factory and Randall’s Textron in Vevay, Indiana; by Dorman Products in Warsaw, Kentucky; by Plastic Molding Factory in East Enterprise, Indiana; as a guard for Kentucky Utilities in Ghent, Kentucky, and by Belterra Casino & Resort as a guard and dispatcher from 1999 to 2013. She enjoyed watching movies, especially westerns and lived in Switzerland County all of her life. She attended Spring Branch Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John Curtis Taylor of Vevay; one daughter, Paula Jean Bovard of Florence; one son, Charles Daniel “Chuck” Rogers Jr. of Florence; her mother, Jean Ritch Thomas of Florence; two step-daughters, Nickie Kersey of Cincinnati, and Bessie Boyd of Milan, Indiana; one brother, Larry Gene Thomas Sr., of Dillsboro, Indiana; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father and by her first husband, Charles Daniel “Butch” Rogers Sr.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the funeral home.
