Verna Finke

Verna L. Jones Finke, 96, of Madison died Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at her daughter’s home.

She was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Jefferson County, to Jesse Jackson and Effie Regina King Jones. She lived most her life in Jefferson County and four and a half years in Huntingburg, Indiana. She worked in catalog sales and credit for 16 years with Sears & Roebuck in Madison. She was a member of North Madison Christian Church. She enjoyed reading, working jig saw puzzles, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Anne Burress and Deb Spry, both of Madison, and Barb Hill of Bluffton, South Carolina; one son, Joe Finke of Dundee, Florida; one sister, Eula Wheeler of Hanover; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Finke, whom she married May 30, 1942, and who died Feb. 6, 1987; one son, Ronald Finke, who died August 18, 2011; her parents; seven brothers, Wilbur, Ernest, Burdsal Virgil, Charles “Round”, Howard, and Clarence Jones; and one sister, Glenna “Dolly” Taylor.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the service.

David Garvey

David Richard Garvey, 83, of Somerset, Kentucky formerly of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.

He was born August 6, 1935 in Vevay, Indiana, to Charles W. and Lena M. Gullion Garvey. He lived his early life Switzerland and Jefferson Counties and later lived in Carrollton for many years. He had worked for Butler Furniture and Big Burley Warehouses. He later worked for the State of Kentucky and lived in Somerset.

He is survived by a brother, Leroy Garvey of Madison; his niece and caregiver, Yvonne Zdonkewicez of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ralph Leon Garvey, Johnny Garvey, Carroll Garvey, Jimmy Garvey, Harold Garvey, and Tommy Garvey; and one sister, Mary Davis.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel, in Hanover, Indiana.

Carolyn Terrell

Carolyn S. Terrell, 76, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Gallatin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw, Kentucky.

She was born April 13, 1942, in Worthville, Kentucky, to Harry Burnard and Marjorie Thomas Spenneberg. She was a member of Family Worship Center in Carrollton and a 1962 graduate of Carrollton High School. She enjoyed painting, crocheting and sewing.

She is survived by one son, Burnard Terrell of Carrollton; five sisters, Edith Hilton and Nettie Hearn, both of Worthville, Mary Perry of Carrollton, Shirley Gibson of Ghent, Kentucky, and Verna Willhoite of Pulaski, Virginia; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Haney Terrell Jr.; her parents; and two sisters, Nina Smith and Betty Spenneberg.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will follow in Worthville Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until the service.
