Debra Day

Debra Sue Day, 65, of North Vernon, died Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Nov. 10, 1954, in Seymour, to Robert L. and Jane Morgan Day. She was a 1974 graduate of Jennings County High School and attended I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis. She was a captain at Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility in Madison, retiring in 2015 after six years. She had previously worked for the Madison Correctional Facility for women in Madison for two years and as a supervisor for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 29 years. She was the president of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center for 10 years. She enjoyed reading, mowing grass, spending time with her family and taking care of others.

Survivors include her brothers, Robert D. Day of North Vernon and Ronnie Day of Madison; a sister, Tammy Adams of North Vernon and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Robert Wesley Day.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, only 25 people will be allowed in the funeral home at a time.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Kidney Association.

William Kasper

William J. Kasper, 64, of Madison, Indiana, died on Monday, May 18, 2020, at the Baptist Health-Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. Arrangements will be announced by the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, www.morgan-nay.com

Shirley Liter

Shirley Jean Higbie Liter, 82, of Milton, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville.

She was born May 22, 1937, in Ripley County, Indiana, to Major and Thelma Heath Higbie. She was raised in Jefferson County and was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School. She settled in Milton after marrying and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She worked early in life for Inglis Drug Store in downtown Madison and the old Indiana Telephone Company. She also enjoyed selling Avon to her family, neighbors and friends and retired after 23 years of service as a school bus driver for the Trimble County School System. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, cooking new things for her family, gardening and working in her flowers.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Leroy Wayne Liter, of Milton; her daughters, Kellie Dean of Milton and Toni Liter of Madison; her son, Bradley Liter of Milton; her brother, Kenneth Higbie of Madison; her sister, Carolyn Hostetler of Madison; her grandson, Cody Dean; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton. Interment will follow in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton. Friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, and from noon until the time of service Thursday at the church.
