Jean Humphrey

Jean Sailor Humphrey, 88, of Madison died Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

She was born March 4, 1930, in Madison, the daughter of Lester E. and Ethel Eaglin Sailor. She graduated from Madison High School in 1963, earning her diploma after returning to school. She left school early to be married. She was the bookkeeper for the former Auto Electric Service from 1970 until its closing in 2013, serving with both her husband and son. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Bethany Circle of the International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons and served as vice president of the King’s Daughters Hospital board of directors. She was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and wrote many letters of congratulations to the team. In turn, she received many Christmas and birthday cards from the team, of which she was very proud. She enjoyed her family and bowling; she bowled on several leagues and earned the city championship in singles and doubles. She began writing while taking care of her late husband during his illness and enjoyed writing poetry.

She is survived by one son, Richard A. “Rick” Humphrey of Madison; three sisters, Jessie Stewart of Madison, Ann Leland of Hanover and Edith Light of Louisville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Humphrey, whom she married June 7, 1947, and who died March 11, 1984; one son, Robert Stewart Humphrey; her parents; and one sister, Mary Ramsey.

There will be a graveside services at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Hebron Cemetery with burial to follow.

There will be no visitation.
