Jane Coy

Jane Wray Forrest Coy, 87, of Madison, formerly of South Bend and Columbus, Indiana, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Hickory Creek of Madison.

She was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Frank and Wavel Spencer Wray. She was a 1949 graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University and a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University South Bend. She was first married to Dr. Norman Forrest on Sept. 5, 1951, and they had one son and a daughter. She later married Wayne Coy on June 28, 1989. She taught school briefly in South Bend and had been a registered nurse. She had worked at Columbus Regional Hospital, Koala Hospital & Counseling Center, Madison State Hospital and King’s Daughters’ Hospital. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, enjoyed golf, reading “pleasant” murder mysteries and painting with watercolors. She followed all the golf and tennis circuits.

She is survived by one daughter, Robin Singer of Madison; one son, Michael Forrest of Brentwood, California; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepson, Richard Coy of LaHabra Heights, California; one stepdaughter, Audrey Boss of Columbus, Indiana; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Coy; her parents; and one brother, Bill Wray.

There will be a celebratiom of life at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Hanover Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Johnnie McDowell

Rev. Johnnie Walton McDowell, 86, of Bedford, Kentucky, died Thursday. Nov. 8, 2018, at Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky.

He was born August 4, 1932, in Bedford, the son of James “J.R.” Robert and Lula McDole McDowell. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was dedicated to serving his Lord and Savior, preaching for several years at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Bedford. He found great comfort in visiting people in nursing homes and hospitals. In his spare time, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch and spending time with his beloved family.

He is survived by his children, Janet Fisher of Bedford, Larry Callis of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Terry McDowell of Madison; his siblings, Chester McDowell and Dollie McCane, both of Bedford, Robert McDowell of Cynthiana, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Jean Adams McDowell; two daughters, Delora Jean Callis and Joy Decker; two sons, James Edward Callis and Gary Leon Callis; his parents; three sisters, infant Rosetta McDowell, Lacy McCane and Shelby McCane; and one brother Alonzo McDowell.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford.

Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the service.
