Viola Earl Higgins, 87, of Madison, formerly of Switzerland County, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at Hosparus Inpatient Unit of Norton Pavillion in Louisville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.

James Joseph “Jim” McKenna Jr., 78, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at River Terrace Health Campus.

He was born Jan. 10, 1940, in Madison, to James Joseph McKenna Sr. and Mary Loretta Collins McKenna. After graduating from Shawe Memorial High School in 1958, he attended Quincy College before being inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps Dec. 31, 1959. Before being honorably discharged in 1963, he was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee; Okinawa; Japan, and Santa Ana, California. His career took multiple paths including banking, real estate and various middle-management positions before retiring from Integrated Information Services in Indianapolis in 1995. During his retirement years, he enjoyed serving as the assistant location coordinator for the movie, “Madison,” and his favorite position was serving as the athletic director at Shawe Memorial High School. He fought a courageous battle for the past 24 years with his health and was lovingly cared for and tended to by his devoted wife, Sally. He was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post 9 of the American Legion and a faithful member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Sally G. Stanner McKenna of Madison; one son, Brian McKenna of Beech Grove, Indiana; one daughter, Jennifer McKenna Weinbaum of Atlanta; one brother, Tom F. McKenna of Carmel, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a funeral mass service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Full military honors will be conducted at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel by Major Samuel Woodfill Post 9 of the American Legion.
