Steven Baker

Steven Dale Baker, 63, of Madison died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in New Albany, Indiana.

He was born Feb. 5, 1955, in Madison, the son of Harvey Edgar and Nellie Carol Wheate Baker. He was a 1973 graduate of Southwestern High School in Hanover, attended Louisville Bible College and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in theology from the Artesia, New Mexico, Bible Seminary. He formerly worked as an emergency medical technician, firefighter and paramedic in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, Florida, Green Thumb, Sirloin Stockade, Holt Monuments and Clifty Falls State Park, all of Madison, and more recently helped area farmers with hay, straw and tobacco. He attended various churches in Madison, volunteered as a bell ringer at Christmas for the Salvation Army and worked with Hungry Hearts Food Pantry at Madison Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Marcia Baker of Madison and Gail Smith of Shelbyville, Indiana; an adopted sister, Patricia Vaughan of Madison; an adopted brother, Clarence Bean Jr. of Madison; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery with burial to follow with military honors conducted by the Honor Guard of Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
