Brenda Crutcher

Brenda Faye Crutcher, 72, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Monday, Nov. 5. 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

She was born Jan. 23, 1946, in Owen County Kentucky, the daughter of Walker Lucas Sr. and Grace Lucas.

She is survived by three daughters, Denise Rock of Key West, Florida and Mira Starks and Susan Crutcher of Carrollton; four sisters, Nell Reynolds, Reva Battice and Freda Barrett of Mississippi, and Shirley Oder of Carrollton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Crutcher; her parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Graham-Dunn Funeral home in Carrollton. A memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Dixie Goins

Dixie A. Goins, 72, of Madison, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.

She was born Dec. 29, 1945 in Madison to Clyde W. and Wanda (Welch) Kidd. She obtained a degree as a paralegal and worked for Boulder Shell and Madison Precision. She enjoyed playing bingo, feeding and watching her birds and squirrels, playing cards, and cooking holiday feasts for her family and their friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina McDowell of Madison; her son, Harvey Trey Goins of Florida; her aunt, who was like a mother, Juanita Jumps of Madison; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and her guardian angel, Sandy Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Mabel Cole Kidd; her brother, Clyde “Sonny” Kidd; and a grandson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison with burial to follow in Bayless Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

Shelby Imel

Shelby Jean Ralston Imel, 77, of Madison, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She was born August 15, 1941 in Jefferson County to Robert L. and Ernestine G. Hart Ralston. She was a graduate of Central High School on Ryker’s Ridge. On August 26, 1959 she married Gerald Wayne Imel. They settled on the family farm on East Brushy Fork Road. She loved to farm and was devoted to that profession her entire life. She also worked for 10 years in the Jefferson County Recorder’s office, 25 years at the Jay-C Food Store in downtown Madison, most of those years as deli manager. She helped to raise more than 100 foster children. She dearly loved her dog, Abby, and had raised pugs, bulldogs, rat terriers and rabbits. She adored animals and enjoyed caring for them. After the death of her father she devoted her life to caring for her mother. She saw to her mother’s every need until her mother’s death at 100, and she lovingly cared for her husband at home until his death.

She is survived by her a son, Gary Wayne Imel of Madison, Indiana; her companion, John O. Ralston of Madison, ; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren, and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Ronald Gene Imel.

Services will be Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Interment will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery near Moorefield, Indiana.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Barbara Kiffmeyer

Barbara Burkert Kiffmeyer, 80, of Hanover, Indiana, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at her home in Hanover, Indiana.

She was born Nov. 22, l937 in Indianapolis to George C., and Maxine Lockridge Burkert. She was a 1955 graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. She earned a B.A. in English from Hanover College in 1960 and received her M.A. in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 1974. She worked as a children’s librarian in the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library system form 1981-1998 and as a media specialist in the Portland (Oregon) Public Schools from 1978-1980. Her work as a librarian included service on committees of the American Library Association, the Indiana Library Federation, and the Governor’s Pre-White House Conferences on Libraries in Salem, Oregon. An active volunteer throughout her adult life, she served on the boards of Cornerstone Society Inc., English Speaking Union, Lanier Mansion Foundation, Jefferson County Historical Society and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. She was an active docent with Historic Madison Inc. and an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she served as a member of the vestry. She loved art, antiques, history and books.

She is survived by two sons, Fritz Kiffmeyer and Wade Kiffmeyer of Indianapolis; a daughter, Jennifer Kiffmeyer of Richmond, Indiana; two sisters, Marcia Belt of Indianapolis and Mary Balph Charlestown, Indiana, and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church, 506 Mulberry Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Internment will follow in the Christ Episcopal Church Columbarium in Madison.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church.

Walter Ralston

Walter Lee “Bim” Ralston, age 64, of Lexington, Indiana, died Monday Nov. 5 at his home.

He was born Jan. 11, 1954 in Madison to Gayle and Alice “Jackie” Bennett Ralston. He was raised in Madison and attended school there. He was raised in the Pentecostal faith. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and rose to the rate of Sergeant during the Vietnam War, serving in the 372nd Transportation Company at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as an infantryman, as a terminal operations coordinator and working with NASA on different projects. He was honorably discharged July 7, 1981 and received the Good Conduct Medal. During his time in the military he completed his GED. After discharge from the military, he spent many years working construction. He was a 25 year member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 631 in Charlestown. He worked for Teton Corporation for the past 20 years as a union supervisor. He loved his Coon dogs, Banjo, Timber, Sounder, Lucy, Max, Blue, Uncle Sam and Tick. He was an avid Coon hunter and gardener and loved yard sales, auctions and flea markets.

He is survived by his companion, Barbara Thorne of Lexington; four daughters Lori, April and Joy Ralston of Murpheesboro, Tennessee and Brooke Ralston of Paris, Tennessee and a stepdaughter, Marilyn Manzutto of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Brian Thorne of Canaan and Donald Thompson of Madison; two brothers, David Ralston of Lexington and Gayle Douglas “Snooky” of Kotzebue, Alaska, 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda L. Ralston Kennett; and a grandson.

Services will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Kent Cemetery in Kent, Indiana.

Friends may visit Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from noon until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel.

A final salute will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel by the Major Woodfill Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full honors to follow at the gravesite.
