Joe Dunlap

Billie Joe “Flop” Dunlap, 68, of Knoxville, Tennessee and formerly of Madison, Indiana, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at his home in Knoxville.

He was born in Madison on Aug. 29, 1952, to Hayden Webster and Doris Evelyn Leach Dunlap. He was a member of the Woodland Park Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and owned and operated a small engine repair shop in Indiana. He was a farmer, carpenter and licensed auctioneer and loved to teach those trades to others.

Survivors include his wife, Pattie Dunlap, of Knoxville; his children, Shelby Dunlap of Indiana, Chamell Toscano and Nicole Long, both of Florida, and Bobby Phillips and Frances Nicole Phillips, both of Oak Ridge; and 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jason Knox; his brother, Donald Wayne Dunlap in 2014; his sisters, Emily “Tootsie” Yvonne Dunlap Grimes in 2014 and Evelyn Ann “Evie” Dunlap O’Nan in 2011; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services are at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, Tennessee. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Clarence Sentell 

Clarence Lee Sentell, 56, of Madison, Indiana, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville. 

He was born May 20, 1964, in Madison, to James and Carolyn Davis Sentell. He was raised in Jefferson County in the Nazarene faith and was a 1982 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He married Maureen Jones in 1983 and they had a son. He then married Marta Barron in 1988 and they had a son. Later, he and his partner, Nancy Rankin, had a daughter. He had worked as a pipe fitter for Don Whittaker, Hale Construction and Ken Cole and then in construction for Wynn Construction before becoming disabled. He lived in Indianapolis for six years. He walked to South Carolina to see his family and then resided there for two years before returning to Madison in 2017. He liked to restore old furniture and other things and enjoyed working and being with his friends and family.

Survivors include his sons, John Paul Jones of Hanover, Indiana and Casey Lee Sentell of Madison; his daughter, Erin Sage Sentell of Bloomington, Indiana; his brothers, Tim Davis and James Sentell, both of Madison; his sisters, Ronnie Moore and Toni Harper, both of Madison; and four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his companion, Helen Lechner. 

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will be at a later date in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Ellen Tolbert

Ellen Louise Marine Tolbert, 80, of Vevay, Indiana, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

She was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Indianapolis, to Everett Robert and Laura Evelyn Hamilton Marine, and raised in Mooresville, Indiana, where she was a 1957 graduate of Mooresville High School. She married Larry Tolbert on March 23, 1957 and they had two sons and two daughters. In 1978, she was employed as a clerk for Tolbert's Petroleum in Vevay and served 22 years. She also helped operate Tolbert's Car Wash in Vevay until 2002. She was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and Vevay Tri Kappa and was a homemaker, enjoyed reading and spending quality time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years; her sons, Brent Tolbert and Dale Tolbert, both of Vevay; her daughters, Daniele Tolbert of Vevay and Shannon Judy of Florence, Indiana; and eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a niece and family friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Emmett Myron Marine in 1935 and Everett Duane Marine in 2005; and a granddaughter and a nephew.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing are both required for attendance.
