Aldean Jividen

Aldean Scott Jividen, 90, of Hamilton, Ohio and formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at her residence in Hamilton.

She was born July 15, 1930, in Switzerland County, to Clinton Earl Scott Sr. and Carrie Leo Romans Scott. She was raised in Madison, Indiana and Vevay, Indiana and was a 1948 graduate of Vevay High School. She married Loren Lee Jividen on Sept. 18, 1950, and they had three daughters and a son. She was employed by the US Shoe Factory in Vevay and cleaned homes in her spare time. She was baptized at Reily Baptist Church in Oxford, Ohio and was a homemaker who enjoyed walking, crafts, making bracelets, drawing, decorating and working in the yard. She annually planted zinnias from seed along her driveway and was a talented seamstress who made dolls, pillows and shirts for her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria "Kay" Baker of Okeana, Ohio and Anita Gay Rabe of Vevay; a son, Jeffrey Wayne Jividen of Vevay; her brother, Raymond "Butch" Scott of Vevay; and six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years in 2005; a daughter, Cynthia F. Jividen Jones, in 2018; two brothers, Nelson Wayne Scott and Clinton "Scotty" Scott Jr.; her sisters, Patricia Ann "Patsey" Scudder and Carolyn Lou Scott Stevenson; and a nephew and two nieces.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services on Oct. 23, at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required for those attending.

Robert Martin

Robert L. Martin, 57, of Madison, Indiana, died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. Arrangements will be announced by the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centres of Madison and Hanover, www.morgan-nay.com.

Fred Penick

Fred Wayne Penick, 66, of Vevay, Indiana, was found dead at home home in Vevay on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020.

He was born Sept. 25, 1954 in Cincinnati, to Luther Allen and Florence A. Vice Penick. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, and was a 1972 graduate of Switzerland County High School. He was employed as a barback for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana, for seven years and for Grand Victoria Casino & Resort in Rising Sun, Indiana, for three years. He resided in Clearwater, Florida, from 1981-1989 and later moved back to the Vevay community where he has lived since. He enjoyed walking around Vevay with his furry companion, Whiskers, telling stories and shooting pool.

Survivors include a brother, Keith Lee Penick of East Enterprise, Indiana; his sisters, Sundra Penick Whitham and Carol Penick Bridgewater, both of Vevay and Leona Sue Penick of Covington, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Luther Allen "Butch" Penick Jr., in 2010 and a niece.

Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, Indiana. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing are required to attend.

LaVerne Self

LaVerne Griffith Self, 87, of Moorefield, Indiana, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at the Aspen Place in Greensburg, Indiana.

She was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Switzerland County, Indiana, to Chester and Isabell Jackso) Griffith. She was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1951 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She married William Thomas "Bill" Self on July 5, 1960, and they had two sons and two daughters. She was employed for the Conn Organ Company in Madison, Indiana, for seven years and as a stitcher for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, retiring after 17 years of service. She was a member of the Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Pleasant, Indiana, and enjoyed sewing, playing card games and shooting pool with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Wyatt Self of Moorefield; her daughters, Debra Ann Keller of Moorefield and Vicki Wynn of Indianapolis; a brother, Eugene Griffith of Madison; her sisters, Alberta Waren, Carolyn Wolf, Joan Wright and Lucille Shoemaker, all of Indianapolis and Louise Smith of Madison; and eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years on Jan. 20, 2009; a son, Wade Tyler Self; two brothers, Charles Edward and James Chester Griffith; and a sister, Marilyn Riley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of services Friday.
