Harold Dickason

Harold Wayne Dickason, 86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, in Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 8, 1933, at the family home in Vevay to Joseph L. and Mildred I. Newkirk Dickason. He grew up in Vevay and was a 1951 graduate of Vevay High School. In his early years, he worked for Dickason Garage in Vevay. He received a degree in business in 1956 from Butler University. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy March 1, 1957, in Vevay and on Oct. 1, 1958, rose to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, the second commissioned officer rank in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged March 14, 1960, at the U.S. Naval Receiving Station in Long Beach, California. He was an electrician for AA Electric in Indianapolis for several years and was an electrician for Lawrence Township School Corporation in Indianapolis, from which he retired in 2004 after 25 years.

He was a dual member of the Speedway Masonic Lodge No. 500 F&AM, Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM, Past Patron of the Oakland Chapter No. 159 Order of Eastern Star and Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 407. He was Past Master of the Oakland Masonic Lodge No. 140 F&AM and attended the VFW Post #261 both of Indianapolis. He lived in Martinsville, Indiana, from 1970 to 1993 when he moved back to the Indianapolis community.

He is survived by his wife, Maryann Bortle Dickason of Indianapolis; two sons, Joseph Edward “Ed” Dickason of Muncie, Indiana, and James William “Bill” Dickason of Noblesville, Indiana; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Lou Konkle and Roberta J. “Bert” Lamson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Masonic and Eastern Star Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 8., at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment and full military rites will be by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.
