Susan Gray

Susan Elizabeth Steinhardt Gray, 59, of Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at her home in downtown Madison.

She was born May 24, 1961, in Madison, to Paul E. and Dorothy E. Buchanan Steinhardt. She was raised in Madison and graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1979. She attended Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and received her Bachelor of Science in Business in 1983. She worked early in life for her father at the family business, Steinhardt & Hanson in downtown Madison. She was raised in the Catholic faith and was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She first married Louis Valker III on Oct. 6, 1984. She lived in Mason, Ohio, and was employed as office manager for Lou Greene Real Estate in Blue Ash. She then resided in Goshen, Kentucky, and worked as a pharmacy tech for Kroger Company for six years. She married Donald E. Gray on July 3, 2008 and was last employed with American Greetings in merchandising for 11 years. She loved her cats and dogs, was an accomplished pianist and also played the flute.

Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Donald E. Gray, of Madison; her step children, Alex Gray, Samantha Gray and Stacie Gray all of Middletown, Ohio; her sister, Catherine “Cate” Steinhardt Thompson of Madison; her brother, Paul Christopher “Chris” Steinhardt of Carlsbad, California; and four step grandchildren, a niece and nephew, grand nieces, numerous cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in downtown Madison. Visitation is from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
