The Madison Area Chamber of Commerce will present two awards in January - the Jeff Garrett Community Service Award for an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the community, and the Business Service Award for a community-minded business. The Chamber is asking community members to provide input into who is deserving of the awards. Winners of both awards will be announced at the Chamber's annual dinner on Jan. 23.

The Business Service Award is given to a local business that demonstrates support of the community through its business strategy. Chamber officials say that support is shown financially and through employee and owner involvement in multiple local organizations that work to improve the quality of life in our area.

Last year's Business Service Award winner was MainSource Bank.

The second award was renamed in 2006 to honor the late Jeff Garrett, who died in 2005 while serving as executive vice president of the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Jeff Garrett Community Service Award goes to a person who demonstrates the spirit of Madison through participation, support, and leadership of multiple organizations, events, and activities.

Last year's Jeff Garrett Community Service Award winner was Bob Greene for his work on the Heritage Trail.

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 4, 2013.
