We knew that once word got out that the Jefferson County United Way was only a few hundred dollars short of its 2014 campaign goal, it wouldn't be long before the goal would be met.

The United Way reached its $360,000 this week.

The drive ended Friday after launching in the fall. Earlier in the week, River Valley Financial Bank made a $1,300 pledge to push the campaign over the top. That was one of thousands of contributions in the county to ensure that United Way can continue its good work.

The money raised will assist 14 local agencies, including the American Red Cross, Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center, Boy Scouts of America Hoosier Trails Council, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Council, Girls Inc., Lifetime Resources/Sentry Services, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Lide White Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Salvation Army, Turning Point, Casa Amiga, Southwestern Recreation Association and the USO.

We thank the individuals and businesses that helped make this year's campaign a success.

Again, Jefferson County residents have shown that we value our neighbors and are at the ready to offer help wherever and whenever it is needed.
