To the editor:

Seth Grundhoefer's on-point reporting of the vandalism to my garden property not only focused attention on the incident, but also heightened awareness of the ongoing problem of vandalism in downtown Madison.

An unexpected result of the article was an outpouring of community support via telephone, written notes and in-person conversations with friends, neighbors and individuals I did not know.

A neighbor on Walnut Street sent a check to help defray expenses; Madison's garden club offered any assistance I might need; and our sheriff got the resources to upright the overturned 1,200 pound concrete urn.

Thanks to all in Madison for your concern and kind words. It is much appreciated.
