To the editor:

It is with great pleasure that the board of directors of the Jefferson County Youth Shelter, Inc. (dba as Pathways Youth Shelter and Family Services) announces its plans to resume operation of the Youth Shelter.

Operation of the shelter was suspended on Sept. 1, 2012. During this period, other programs and services provided under the youth shelter umbrella have continued to operate.

Now, after months of discussion and problem solving, state changes, new management, lots of hard work, and given the ongoing need for a shelter in our community, the board of directors has determined that conditions are once again favorable to lift the suspension and resume operations.

Pathways Youth Shelter will be open to serve and care for the needs of local and surrounding community youth, just as it has since 1987.

We also would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for all the generous donations and support over the years, whether in the form of monetary, in-kind donations, manual labor or prayers. Again, thank you for supporting our youth shelter. We look forward to many years of continued operation serving the needs of our community.

Amy Perkins, board president; John Collins, vice president; Kathy Blondin-Stone, secretary; Pat Dryden, treasurer; and board members Trevor Crafton, Al Huntington, Nancy Jacobs, Katie Jenner, Ryan Mahoney, Julie Mitchell, Marni Todd and Chris Wilcox.
