To the editor:

I recently had the pleasure of running in my sixth Madison Courier 10K race. This race has become one of my favorites because it is professionally staged, competitive and is in the beautiful setting of Madison.

I was looking forward to bettering my third place finish from last year and my twin sister who beat me wasn't running. Well, I didn't come close.

I don't remember the last mile and a half of the race and evidently stumbled across the finish line. Thankfully the race officials and EMTs were there to assist me and eventually transported me to the hospital with heat exhaustion. This was a different and surprising experience for me because I have been accustom to running in much higher temperatures including the Madison race of 2012!

I want to thank the race organizers who always stage a wonderful race, the EMTs, the emergency room staff, the third-floor nurses, and doctors at your wonderful King's Daughters Hospital, and most of all Jane Jacobs who personally delivered my third- place age-group finish trophy to the hospital. I am looking forward to next year's race!
