Young Writers Workshop: This creative writing workshop will be guided by Dominique Battles from Hanover College. The workshop starts Jan. 8 through Feb. 26 at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Official meeting time is on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. This program is for children in 4th, 5th or 6th grade. New Year’s Eve at the Elks: This celebration will begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Elks Lodge. Jimmy Davis will perform at 9 p.m. and Hors D’eouvres will be avaliable throughout the evening. Bring Size 5 needles, worsted weight yarn, tapestry needle, fiberfill and catnip. The instructor will be Pam Sinsel.

Madisonians Abroad: Join this meeting for an evening of armchair travel from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. The theme for this meeting is Camino de Santiago Compostela Pilgrimage: Hiking the Pyrenees and Northern Spain in the Path of St. James the Apostle. Shirley Kloepfer and Julie Brown will share their travel experiences and photos.

Knitting 101: This introduction to knitting class is for beginners who always wanted to learn how to knit. This will meet from 5 pm. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Hanover. Instructor Pan Sinsel will teach the foundation skills: how to read a basic patterns, three different “cast on” methods, the purl stitch, how to “bind off” when finished and students will learn about equipment needed to knit. Students need to purchase size 7 or 8 straight knitting needles. The library will provide the yarn. Registration is required.
