Young Writers Workshop: This creative writing workshop will be guided by Dominique Battles from Hanover College. The workshop starts Jan. 8 through Feb. 26 at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Official meeting time is on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. This program is for children in 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Registration is required and ends on Jan. 15. Finished stories can be submitted to the library and will be added to the library’s collection. Admission is free. Kids Knitting 101.2: Youth with basic knitting skills in third grade or older can learn to knit a hat at 4 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. For this class, students must know basic knit and purl stitches and basic cast on and bind off methods. Students must bring size 5 and size 7 straight knitting needles, RedHeart or any worsted weight yarn (light or bright colors recommended), stitch markers and a yarn darning needle. Seed Swap Day: Bring your extra seeds to share with other participants from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Seeds should be clean, free of mold, labeled and not older than 3 years. Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions about seeds and plants. Educational material will also be available. Groundhogs: Underground Architects: Meet at 11 a.m. at the Clifty Falls State Park Nature Center for a quick 30-minute look into the lives of groundhogs. There will be a fun craft with groundhog masks that can be worn.

Fish Fry: The Kent Volunteer Fire Company will host a fish fry from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. All proceeds will go directly to the Deputy Fire Department to help rebuild.

STEM Saturday: Create and explore at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. The library will provide a few projects with materials and instructions. Play with the Code and Go Mouse, build with Legos, visit the maker table and create something to take home. This event is recommended for ages 6 and up, but all ages are welcome. Waterfall Hike: Meet at the Clifty Falls Shelter at 2 p.m. for a one-hour moderately rugged hike through one of the most scenic sections of Clifty Canyon. Five waterfalls can be seen along the way. For more information, email KLeach@dnr.in.gov or call (812) 273-0609.

Teen Craft: Teen’s and tween’s can visit the Carroll County Public Library at 3 p.m. to make a perler bead craft.

Knitting 101: This introduction to knitting class is for beginners who always wanted to learn how to knit. This will meet from 5 pm. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Hanover. Instructor Pan Sinsel will teach the foundation skills: how to read a basic pattern, three different “cast on” methods, the purl stitch, how to “bind off” when finished and students will learn about equipment needed to knit. Oil Painting Class: This is a comprehensice series of 11 classes that will meet on Mondays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. These classes will cover method and technique while focusing on a particular project each week. Each student will need to purchase materials for the class.
