Dixen loves to give hugs! Dixen is a sweet, handsome boy and all-around great dog. Dixen appears to be fine with other dogs and will walk nicely past them at the shelter. However, it is always best for him to meet the other dogs in the family to make sure they like him. Dixen is a 3- to 5-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who weighs 56 lbs. Dixen is $30 off his adoption and neuter fees to help him get a home.
Wiggles needs to get out of the shelter! He is feeling stressed from being cooped in a kennel. Wiggles is not acting his silly, wiggly self anymore. So visitors often do not see the real “Wiggles,” who is a 1-year-old pup with lots of playful energy and wiggles. Wiggles is motivated by treats during training. He already knows sit and will learn other commands quickly to get those treats. Wiggles also walks nicely on a leash. If he gets an afternoon walk at the shelter, he will keep his kennel clean overnight.Wiggles has sponsorships of $30 and $45 to total $75 off his adoption and neuter fees. The extra $45 is so he can be neutered quickly by a local veterinarian.
The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has 5 dogs or puppies, and 8 cats or kittens available. Pictures of additional pets waiting for adoption can be viewed at www.sisaveapet.com.
Normal shelter hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. It is closed Tuesday. The shelter number is (812) 273-1788 and the email is jcas39@seidata.com.
Dogs and cats are $30 plus prepayment of their spay/neuter and rabies vaccination. Cats who are already spayed/neutered are $45 plus prepayment of their rabies vaccination if it is needed. Dogs who are already spayed/neutered are $55 plus prepayment of their rabies vaccination if it is needed. The total cost of the spay/neuter and rabies vaccination varies depending on the veterinarian or clinic chosen.
Volunteers are always welcome at the shelter. Individuals must be at least 16 years old to volunteer. Volunteers can help with everyday cleaning, answering phones, and exercising the pets. Contact the shelter for details.
The shelter is a registered organization with the Kroger Community Rewards program. To support the shelter, register a Kroger card at www.krogercommunityrewards.com and enter FL919.
Support the shelter while walking your dog. Use the “Walk for a Dog” or “WoofTrax” app available through the App Store or Google Play. For each mile walked, a donation is made to the shelter.
A list of needed items can be found on the shelter website. Donations can be mailed to 2727 Hannah Drive, Madison, IN 47250 or dropped off during shelter hours. The shelter also accepts aluminum and steel cans, which are recycled and the proceeds put toward the medical fund. Recent donations have helped get treatment for a beagle with a skin infection and a cat with wounds. The shelter asks that aluminum and steel donations be separated. Steel cans should also be rinsed before they are dropped off. Cans can be dropped off at anytime in a bin located on the east side of the shelter.
Those with missing pets can stop by the shelter, call or email a complete description of the pet, when and where it was last seen, the owner’s name and contact information, and a picture of the pet. Pets are held for three days before they are made available for adoption.
Animals should not be abandoned outside of the shelter or dropped off at the shelter after hours.
For animal control issues in Madison, call (812) 265-3347. For animal control issues in Hanover and Jefferson County, call (812) 265-2648.
