Jefferson County Purdue Extension will offer a new 4-H Spark Club on cake decorating starting this week.

Spark Clubs are intended for any youth in 3rd through 12th grade and are designed to create positive learning experiences in a specific area of interest, skill or vocation. The club meets for at least six hours of hands-on instruction, but is not designed as a long term program.

The Cake Decorating 4-H Spark Club aims to teach the basics of cake decorating in four 90-minute classes. The club will first meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on March 14 and March 16 at the Lonnie Mason Agriculture Building at the Jefferson County 4-H Fairgrounds. Two additional classes will be scheduled for April.

Participants are expected to enroll in 4-H and pay the state 4-H program fee. Individuals can participate in more than one Spark Club or in a regular 4-H Club, and will only have to pay the state fee once.

Students must register by Monday. The fee for new 4-H members is $20, which includes the state fee and supplies. The fee for current 4-H members is $5 for supply costs. To register, or for more information, call (812) 265-8919.
