Mindy Foust and Samuel Bortka, both of Salem, exchanged vows Friday, June 23, 2017, at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick. Fr. Ben Syberg officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Kelly Clark of Salem and Dale Foust of English. She is a 1997 graduate of West Washington High School. She is also a graduate of Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville, where she earned a degree in applied science in funeral service and served as vice president of Pi Sigma Eta. She studied nursing at Ivy Tech Community College and journalism at Indiana University Southeast. She is an alumna of Awareness Washington County and is currently serving an internship as funeral director at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra.

The groom is the son of Paula Bortka of Salem and Jerry Bortka of Italy. He is a 1988 graduate of Salem High School and a graduate of Indiana University, where he earned a master’s degree in jazz studies. He serves on the Distinguished Alumni Board of the Indiana University School of Music. He is currently the band director for Madison Consolidated Schools.

The couple celebrated their vows at their apartment in Astoria, Queens, N.Y.
