To the editor:

Are you as frustrated as I am that we can’t talk about politics without being afraid of offending someone? Does the divisiveness of political discourse bother you? If so, I invite you to meet at the auditorium of the Madison public library on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. for “An Evening of Cordial Politics.” There will be a few rules: 1. bring a joke to start things off, the cornier the better; 2. be prepared to answer some questions like what am I afraid of and why, what are my hopes and how do we to get from here to there; and 3. be polite — no sarcasm, no name-calling, no anger. We’ll just be a bunch of friends getting together to discuss what’s important. No guarantees that this will work, but isn’t it worth a try?
