To the editor:

We recently celebrated our 10th year of Job Shadowing at Switzerland County Middle School and I would like to take the time to personally thank everyone who has supported our students over those years. This valuable experiential learning opportunity would not be possible without the continued support of the Vevay Switzerland County Foundation, Inc. Their grant has helped almost 1,000 SCMS students get the opportunity to experience the profession of their choosing, while gaining an understanding of the educational path they will need to take in order to realize their occupational dreams. Students have had a multitude of unique experiences over the years, while spending a half day with their respective community professionals. These 8th graders have parked jets at Madison’s Municipal Airport, crafted guitars and created songs with local musicians, peaked behind the curtain at our Sheriff’s Department, interviewed healthcare professionals and participated in a mock disaster at King’s Daughters’ Hospital, sat in on surgeries at local veterinarian clinics, operated heavy equipment and learned about engineering while visiting local factories and plants, just to name a few. There have been so many community professionals from Jefferson, Switzerland, Ohio, and Ripley Counties that have volunteered their time, it would be impossible for me to list them all. Please know that your contributions are seen in the eyes of the students, as they board the bus at the conclusion of their visit, and chatter all the way home about what they experienced. You have made a lasting, positive impact on the students who will one day be the leaders of our communities and for that, I can’t thank you enough.
