    Errors, walks and hit batters were the story in Thursday’s baseball showdown between Madison and Switzerland County.

    The Cubs ended up making fewer mistakes and took advantage of Switzerland County’s miscues to post a 13-4 win in Vevay.

    Shawe baseball scored its first win in two seasons Wednesday — halting an overall 26-game losing streak — with a 10-8 victory at South Decatur.

    Walker Kennett started on the mound for the Hilltoppers (1-3) and got the win going three innings and giving up six runs — three earned — with six strikeouts. Nate Pawlak pitched the final four innings and allowed two runs — both unearned — with five strikeouts.

    MILWAUKEE — Junior Guerra settled in after a shaky first inning, and Eric Thames made sure the effort wasn’t wasted.

    Thames hit a two-run homer to back a three-hitter from Guerra and three relievers, lifting the Milwaukee Brewers over the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 on Tuesday night.

    Southwestern girls tennis overcame a rough night in singles play by sweeping the doubles to pick up a 3-2 win over South Dearborn on Tuesday in Hanover.

    South Dearborn dominated singles play, picking up wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, but the Rebels picked up a three-set victory by Sam Suthard at No. 3 singles and swept both doubles to pull out the victory.
