Carroll County scored a big win over district rival Owen County, 53-51 in overtime Thursday in boys basketball action in Owenton, Ky.

The Panthers, wo are off to a 4-0 start, took a 33-27 lead into the fourth quarter and survived a late Owen rally that forced overtime. In the extra session Carroll got a big basket from Trey Boles and the Panthers held on for the win.

"This is a nice quality win for us. Owen County was ranked fourth in the region and number one in our district," Carroll County coach Carroll Yager said. "Everybody played well. It didn't come down to one shot or one player. Everybody made a contribution."

Senior guard Brandon Stewart led Carroll with 16 points while Boles, a senior forward, had 14 and Dallas Gibson, a senior center, had 13. Only six players hit the floor for the Panthers but there was no sign of fatigue.

"We felt like we were going to be a pretty well-conditioned team," Yager said. "Truthfully, everybody was playing so well and nobody was tired."

Carson Williams led Owen County with 25 points while Zach Ripy scored 13 points.

Carroll, now 3-0 in the North Central Kentucky Conference, is 1-0 in 31st District play. The Panthers face another district foe at home on Tuesday against Henry County.
