Bailey Elliott used both his arm and his bat to lead Southwestern baseball to a 9-4 win over Milan in a sectional preview Monday in Hanover.

The win also allowed the Rebels to take over second place in the Ohio River Valley Conference, just a game behind Rising Sun

Elliott was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead the Rebels’ 15-hit attack. On the mound, he held the Indians to just two earned runs on six hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Southwestern pulled away from the Indians late. Holding onto just a 5-4 lead, the Rebels scored two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to finally gain the breathing room they needed to close out the win.

Along with Elliott, Tyler Kramer had two hits and two RBIs, Nate Lichlyter had two hits and an RBI, Talon Harmon and Jackson Stockdale each had two hits and scored a run, Dylan West had a double and an RBI and Foster Mefford had a hit and an RBI.

Southwestern (14-9, 8-2 ORVC) travels to Christian Academy of Indiana Tuesday. The Rebels play Switzerland County in their final ORVC game on Wednesday in Hanover. Meanwhile, the Shiners (14-5, 9-1 ORVC) play their final conference game against Jac-Cen-Del on Wednesday in Osgood.
