Madison boys golf had three golfers break 40 in a nine-hole match but the Cubs still came up short in a tough three-way battle at Sunrise Golf Course on Monday.

Madison’s 156 was three-strokes behind winner Floyd Central — ranked No. 14 in the preseason poll — which shot a 153. New Albany was third with a 163.

Drew Barron led Madison’s charge with an impressive two-under 34 which was good for low-medalist honors while Trent Jamieson and Luken Ommen weren’t far behind with 39s. Dylan Eblen shot a 44 to round out the Cubs’ scoring. Nate Hamby had a 47 and Mitchell Liter a 50 in non-scoring rounds.

Judson Dukes and Max Zoeller each carded 36s to lead Floyd Central while Reece Compton had a 40 and Ben Howell had a 41. In non-scoring rounds, Christian McIntosh had a 42 and Harrison Eades had a 43.

Nolan Keeler had a 38 to lead New Albany while Logan Bunch carded a 40, Caiden Walters had a 42 and Ryan Crum had a 43. Lukas Knoy shot a non-scoring 50.

Madison competes in the Clarksville Invitational at Wooded View Golf Course Saturday.
