Christian Academy of Madison’s boys basketball team wrapped up the 2019-20 season with the national tournament in Dayton, Tennessee last weekend.

The Defenders went 2-2 over the four games. CAM opened the tournament with a 77-41 win over Christian Ministries (Ark.) on Wednesday, March 4 and then suffered a close 63-60 loss to Hendersonville (Ky.) on Thursday, March 5. On Friday, March 6, CAM defeated Tri-State (Calif.) 63-43 and lost 50-41 to Bethel Christian (Ky.).

Sophomore Clay Carter was named to the Division 7 all- tournament team after averaging 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the tournament.

Against Christian Ministries, Trent Haggard led four players in double figures with 17 points and nine rebounds while Clay Carter had six points, Luke Carter had 14 points and Jaxon Miller had 11 points. The Defenders hit 11 3-pointers in the game.

Haggard had 23 points and 14 rebounds and Clay Carter had 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds in the loss to Hendersonville. Luke Carter added 11 points in the loss.

Against Tri-State, Clay Carter hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points while grabbing seven rebounds to lead CAM. Haggard had nine points, 12 rebounds and five assists while Chase Hoskins had nine points and seven rebounds.

Clay Carter had 19 points and Adin Gamble scored 13 to lead the Defenders in the loss to Bethel Christian.

Christian Academy ends the season with a school-record 27-9 mark. Senior shooting guard Luke Carter, who went over the 1,000-point mark earlier this year, will sign with NAIA Division 1 Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois on April 29. Six-foot-six senior center Haggard has yet to commit but is considering several colleges including Hanover College.
