Madison’s Cooper Yancey has been named First Team Hoosier Hills All Conference in voting by the league’s basketball coaches.

Yancey, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, averaged 18.1 points per game this season. He was an honorable mention HHC selection last year as a junior.

Yancey is joined on the first team by Cobie Barnes and Jake Heidbreder both of Floyd Central; Tre Coleman and Jacob Jones, both of Jeffersonville; Derrick Stevenson and Julien Hunter, both of New Albany; Brayton Bailey and McCall Ray, both of Bedford North Lawrence; and Matthew Frost of Columbus East.

Honorable mention selections included: Darin Starks, Devean Franklin and Will Lovings-Watts, all of Jeffersonville; Tyler Boyer and Drew Johnson, both of Columbus East; Josh Pettit and Aaron Martin, both of Jennings County; Trey Hourigan of New Albany; Jathan Ritter of Bedford North Lawrence; and Nick Winchell of Floyd Central.

The Coaches of the Year were Todd Sturgeon of Floyd Central and Joe Luce of Jeffersonville — both conference co-champions with 6-1 records. It was Jeff’s 11th conference championship and Floyd’s fifth.

The Madison Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting applications for summer baseball and softball for boys girls ages seven to 15 by May 1.

The cost is $50. The deadline for Rookie, Minor and Major leagues is March 29. The deadline for upper leagues is May 10.

The Madison Adult Softball Leagues, hosted by the Madison Parks Department, will hold an organizational meetings on Tuesday, March 26 at the Boneyard Grill on Madison’s hilltop.

The Women’s softball meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with the men’s meeting at 7 p.m. Team representatives and those seeking more information on the leagues are invited to attend.
