The North Central Kentucky Conference Boys Tennis Tournament got under way Monday with boys singles and doubles matches at Trimble County.

In singles action, Carroll County’s J.J. Fernandez defeated Eminence’s Mason Ford 6-2, 6-4 in the second round. Fernandez will now face Tyler Burk of Lloyd Memorial in the semifinals on Wednesday for the right to face Owen County’s Chase Merchant in the championship.

In doubles action, Carroll County’s No. 1 team of David Jimenez and Alex Hedge lost 6-3, 6-2 to Eminence’s No. 2 squad of John Cooper and Johnathan Zarcillo on the opening round. The Panthers’ No. 2 team of Zack Martin and Austin Harsin then lost 6-0, 6-0 to Eminence’s No. 1 duo of Silvestre Reza and Hunter Gibson 6-0, 6-0.

The girls portion of the tournament begins Tuesday with the finals set for Wednesday.
