- Former Southwestern High School wrestling standout Luke Schroeder has been named Athlete of the Week by Purdue University.

Schroeder, a member of the Purdue wrestling team, received the award for his community involvement as well as his commitment to off-season training.

"Luke was recruited to Purdue not because of his athletic ability or wrestling accomplishments, but because of his competitiveness and work ethic," Purdue wrestling coach Scott Hinkle said. "Luke is one of the hardest workers in our room, and one of the few on our team that is truly committed to being a national champion. I have no doubt he will be in contention for All-American and National honors before he is done at Purdue."

Schroeder lettered for Purdue as a freshman but took a redshirt this past season. He is completing his sophomore year at Purdue, majoring in mechanical engineering technology and is maintaining over a 3.0 grade average.

"Not only does Luke commit 100 percent to his wrestling, but he is also a great ambassador for our sport, both on campus and as well in our surrounding community," Hinkle said. "We are proud to have Luke as part of the Purdue athletic family."
