Madison's Hayden McMahon and all three Cubs' relay teams reached the sectional finals after strong swims in Thursday's preliminaries of the IHSAA Floyd Central Sectional.

McMahon, a senior, finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.00, less than half a second behind the leader, Karol Schmuck of Jeffersonville. All eight swimmers in the finals finished less than three seconds of the top.

Flynn Moore, Calvin Willhite, Tate Turner and Trajen Jenkins finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:38.09. McMahon, Turner, Sean Brink and Grant Ward were fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:46.80. Ward, Willhite, Moore and McMahon were sixth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.02.

"To say we had fantastic swims tonight is an understatement," Madison coach Stacy Crawley said. "We are ecstatic and completely blown away with the times swam, time cuts and our positions going into finals on Saturday. For the first time in our nine-year coaching career, we have at least one swimmer going back to finals or consolation finals in every event."

Switzerland County's Zack Rodgers, Talen Taylor, Demetrie Liapis and Mikhail Cole finished eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:07.10 to earn a berth in the finals.

Eleven Madison swimmers qualified for the consolation finals and will compete on Saturday. Southwestern had five swimmers qualify for the consolation finals and Switzerland County had four qualify for the consolations.

"It was a really great night for the boys. We had 17 out of 20 best times tonight," Southwestern coach Shelly Hamilton said. "They are a fun and highly motivated group of young men."
