Madison wrestling wrapped up Saturday’s final day of the Fugate Memorial Tournament at Scottsburg with four wins in five matches to finish as the overall team runner-up at 9-1.

After going 4-0 on Friday, the Cubs defeated Southwestern 48-33, Jennings County 48-33, Seymour 45-36 and Scottsburg 42-30 with their only loss coming to Eastern (Pekin), 46-29.

Two wrestlers, Dalton Berry and Dylan Fulton, were a perfect 5-0 on the day with five others claiming four wins each.

“We are battling some serious injury bugs right now. But the young guys are really stepping up,” Madison coach Tyson Skinner said. “I am impressed by how hard these guys work and how well they listen.”

Berry, wrestling at 182 pounds, won two matches by fall, two by forfeit and one by decision while Fulton scored three fall wins and one each by decision and forfeit at 285 pounds.

Going 4-1 on the day were: Kelsey Bilz (106 pounds), Noah Burkhardt (113), Luke McCarty (145), Drake Youngblood (160) and Tucker Adams (220) while Grason Lee (120/126) and Trenton Stockdale (138) each went 2-3. Jacob Skirvin (120) went 1-1 while Christian Lyons (152) and Caleb Horn (170) both went 1-4.

No full results were available for Southwestern, but against Madison, the Rebels got wins from Cameron Canada (126), Clifton Hendrickson (132), Brandon Smith (145), Mitchell Cline (152), Brady McClain (160) and Kyler Brooks (195).

No results for Switzerland County were available.

Madison also sent four wrestlers to Jeffersonville for a dual tournament. Bryce Turner went 3-2, Zach Wolf was 1-4 and Hunter Robbins and Noah Foster both were 0-5.

Madison returns to action on Tuesday when it competes at North Harrison. Southwestern travels to Charlestown on Wednesday and Switzerland will be back at Scottsburg on Dec. 13.
