Indiana Tech's Nathan Riley
Former Madison athlete Nathan Riley recently competed in the 2019 NAIA National Indoor Championships in Brookings, South Dakota, where he finished seventh in the shot put to earn All-American honors for the second time in his collegiate career.

Riley, a senior thrower for Indiana Tech, did not produce the best throw of his season but his 16.57-meter effort (54-feet, 4.5 inches) was still good enough for his second career All-American honor.

More important, Riley’s strong finish was just one of the reasons the Warriors were able to edge Wayland Baptist (Texas) by two points for the team championship, Indiana Tech fifth national men’s title in the last six seasons. Wayland had halted Tech’s streak of championship last season by beating the Warriors by eight points.

Riley previously qualified for both the indoor and outdoor national championships in both 2017 and 2018.

Indiana Tech’s outdoor track and field season debuts on March 15 when the Warriors travel to Mobile, Alabama for the Jaguar Opener at South Alabama University. The team’s only event in Indiana this spring will be the Ball State Challenge on Saturday, April 13 in Muncie.
