Former Southwestern High School standout Hunter Mefford picked up a huge golf win on Tuesday in the Indiana Amateur Qualifier at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.

Mefford, a 2019 Southwestern graduate and now sophomore at Purdue Fort Wayne, shot an even-par 72 to win the match by one stroke over Jalen Hodges on Indianapolis.

Former Madison High School golfer Carson Wattenbarger finished tied for 22nd in Indiana PGA Northern Open at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie on Monday. Wattenbarger, representing the Hillview Country Club in Franklin, shot a one-over 71 to finish four strokes back of the highly-competitive event. John Gordon of Connersville shot a 67 and won a three-way playoff to claim the title.

Another former Madison Cub, Blair Shadday, finished tied for 56th with a five-over 75 in the same event. Shadday was representing Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond.



Mike Brown leaves Salem

Former Shawe Memorial High School boys basketball coach Mike Brown has left Salem to take the same position at Crothersville High School.

Brown, who coached Shawe to a 5-20 record during the 2017-18 season, was 25-23 in two seasons at Salem, including 11-12 this past season.

In addition to coaching the Crothersville boys, Brown will also serve as athletic director.
