Gallatin County wasted little time in dispatching Trimble County, rolling to a 76-42 boys basketball win on Tuesday night in Bedford.

The Wildcats, who are an Eighth Region-best 21-5, blitzed Trimble right from the start, jumping out to leads of 14-2 and 21-4 and never looking back.

Gallatin (21-5, 6-1 North Central Kentucky) hit seemingly every shot during the first half, but Trimble helped the Wildcats immensely with 10 turnovers in the first quarter and 15 in the first half. With less than two minutes left to play in the second period, the Raiders had more turnovers than points.

Trimble County (12-13, 4-2 NCKC) trailed 48-16 at halftime but played much better in the second half, turning the ball over just five times over the final 16 minutes. But Gallatin pushed its lead to more than 35 points with 4:37 to go in the third to trigger the mercy rule and a running clock and led by as many as 39 early in the fourth before settling on the 34-point win.

Senior Grant Weaver was the Raiders’ only offense in the first half, scoring 12 of his team’s 16 points en route to a game-high 20 in his final home game. Junior Reece Webster added 13 points — 11 of that in the second half.

Wyatt Bowen was unstoppable for Gallatin and scored nearly at will. The senior scored the Wildcats’ first 10 points, had 18 in the first half and led all scorers with 25 points including five 3-pointers. Devin McAllister and Troy Coomer scored 11 points each.

Trimble County takes to the road for its final two regular-season games, traveling to Henry County on today and Lloyd Memorial on Friday. The Raiders will then face South Oldham in the semifinals of the KHSAA 29th District Tournament at South Oldham on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Carroll girls fall to South Oldham

Carroll County girls basketball lost 63-45 at home to South Oldham on Monday in a game that also served as the Panthers’ weather-delayed homecoming.

Carroll, now 8-16, close out the regular season at Walton-Verona on Friday. The Panthers will then face Eminence in the opening round of the KHSAA 31st District Tournament at home on Monday.
