Hanover’s women opened the game on fire then held on against a late rally to pick up a 62-53 win over Bluffton at home on Saturday.

The Panthers, who improved to 6-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the win, jumped out to a 25-7 lead after the first quarter. But Bluffton regrouped, slicing six points off the lead in the second quarter and trailing only 49-37 after three quarters.

The Beavers continued to inch closer but Hanover held on for the win.

All-American Alexis Nall had 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Hanover. Savannah Courtney also posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds while former Cub Madison Cub Katie Hartman had 10 points.

Brianna Gillig had 17 points and T.J. Mills had 10 points to lead Bluffton.

Hanover, now 7-5 on the season, travels 13th-ranked Transylvania on Wednesday in a matchup of the league’s top two teams. Both teams are 6-0 in conference play.

Men pull away for the win

Hanover pulled away in the second half to beat Bluffton 63-44 in men’s basketball Saturday at home.

The Panthers led 39-31 at the half but dominated the final 20 minutes, holding Bluffton to just 13 points to win going away.

Kevin Williams celebrated his birthday by scoring 12 points to lead Hanover. Matt Weimer came off the bench to score 11 points and Isaac Hibbard had 10 points.

Andrew Renner scored 13 points to lead Bluffton.

Hanover, now 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, hosts Transylvania on Wednesday.
