Hanover men’s basketball survived a frantic second-half rally to knock off Manchester 66-62 at home on Saturday and maintain a one-game lead in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with just a week to play.

The Panthers led 35-27 at halftime and scored the first nine points of the second half and eventually led 48-30 with just over 15 minutes to play.

Manchester (9-14, 6-10 HCAC) spent the rest of the game cutting into the Panther lead. An 11-0 run pulled the Spartans to within 63-60 with 40 seconds to go.

Hanover failed to score on its subsequent possession but Manchester promptly threw the ball away. Matt Weimer, a freshman from Floyd Central, then knocked down two free throws for the Panthers to seal the win.

Both teams were identical from the floor, going 26-for-60 (43.3 percent) but Hanover hit two more 3-pointers and two free throws to pull out the win.

Cam Fails, a senior from Cincinnati, scored 20 points and had nine rebounds, five steals and three assists in an impressive all-around performance. Isaac Hibbard, a sophomore from NEW Albany, chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers.

Jalmen Sullivan scored 21 points off the bench to lead Manchester while Adrian Johnson and Cortiz Buckner had 10 points each.

Hanover enters the final week of the regular season with an 18-5 overall record and 13-3 in the HCAC, one game ahead of both Rose-Hulman and Transylvania (Ky.) The Panthers close out their schedule with a pair of road games, at Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) on Wednesday and at Defiance (Ohio) on Saturday.
