Hanover College’s men’s tennis team was picked to finish third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season.

The Panthers, who went 12-11 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC play last year, received 71 points in voting by league coaches. Rose-Hulman, which ran the table in the league last year, was picked to win the title again, garnering 89 points and eight first-place selections. Earlham was second with 81 points and the final first-place vote.

Transylvania (53 points), Franklin (53), Manchester (50), Anderson (39), Defiance (31) and Mount St. Joseph (19) rounded out the poll.

Landon Carrico, a junior from New Albany, posted a 10-4 combined record for Hanover last year and was named the HCAC watchlist. Martin Zarate, a junior from San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, Keith Asplund, a freshman from Jeffersonville, and Pablo Gallart, a freshman from Serra, Spain, were also named to the watchlist.

Madison’s Christian Brown, a sophomore at Mount St. Joseph, was also named to the watchlist.

Hanover opens the 2019 season on Thursday when it takes on Midway (Ky.) in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
