Hanover’s women’s basketball team clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 70-52 win over Earlham on the road on Saturday.
The Panthers improved to 14-6 overall and 13-1 in the HCAC, second to only No. 7 Transylvania (20-1, 14-0 HCAC). Hanover holds a five-game lead over third-place Franklin with just four games left.
Preseason All-American Alexis Nall, a senior from Mount Vernon, flexed her muscles with 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Hanover. Madison’s Katie Hartman had 15 points and Kristin Mills scored 10 points. Switzerland County’s Brooke Todd did not score but she had six rebounds and five assists.
Hanover travels to Anderson on Wednesday.
Men fall to Earlham
Hanover’s men’s basketball team lost to Earlham for the second time this year, 81-69 in Richmond on Saturday, and fell out of a first-place tie in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Panthers trailed just 31-29 at the half but were outscored by 10 over the final 20 minutes. The loss dropped Hanover to 9-5 in the league, one game back of Franklin and Transylvania.
Kevin Williams, a senior from Edinburgh, scored 30 points on 14-of-16 shooting to lead Hanover but no other Panther reached double figures in scoring. Logan Ratts and Mark Albers had nine each.
Jamel Barnes Jr. scored 37 points to lead Earlham which hit 14 3-pointers in the game. Barnes was 6-of-7 on long-range shots.
Hanover, now 15-6 on the season, hosts Anderson on Wednesday.
