Dennis Kilgore is returning to Shawe Memorial High School for his second stint as volleyball coach the school announced on Wednesday.

Kilgore, who coached the Hilltoppers in 2011, was one of three coaches announced by the school. Former Madison and Southwestern coach Jeff Lawson and another former head coach at Shawe, Kevin Jones, were also hired as coaches for the school.

All three coaches, Kilgore, Lawson and Jones, coached the junior high program at Shawe last year and will replace departed coach Tim Torrance and his staff.

“We are all three really excited and honored to get this opportunity to coach the Shawe Lady Hilltoppers volleyball program. We look forward to the chance to build on the existing potential and grow the program to showcase just how much talent Shawe athletics has,” Kilgore said. “We have already been fortunate to see how great this organization’s athletes, parents, and staff are and we are eager to get this upcoming season started.”

Kilgore has been a fixture on the local volleyball season for two decades. He went 7-19 in his previous one-year stint for the Hilltoppers, but served as Lawson’s assistant during a very successful tenure at Madison where the Cubs won 191 matches in eight seasons as well as a sectional title.

“We were extremely excited and fortunate to be able to welcome these three coaches into the Hilltopper family last year as part of our junior high program and we are really looking forward to now having their leadership at the high school level,” Shawe Athletic Director Jamison Bower said. “They are all highly qualified coaches with many accolades and their coaching styles and techniques complement one another’s very well. I don’t think we could ask for better coaches to continue to build and excel our program to the next level.”

Like all schools in the state, Shawe started athletic activity this week, its first since mid-March. Shawe kicks off the volleyball season on Aug. 17 at home against New Washington.
