Lanesville jumped on Shawe Memorial with a 22-8 first quarter and never looked back in a 58-27 win in girls basketball on Saturday.

Shawe struggled to hit shots all night. The Hilltoppers were just 8-for-46 (17 percent) overall and 0-for-10 from behind the arc.

"We got off to a slow start and were not able to recover. We were just a step slow the whole game," Shawe coach Camille Deuser said. "We still have a lot of work to do. We are also still adjusting to new roles because of losing players to injury. Meg Scroggins has had to learn to play a wing when she is really a post player, but she has done a great job and listened really well.

"Our defense was not up to where it normally is," Deuser added. "All season our defense has been the thing that has constantly been strong, but it wasn't there today. We are going to have to go in and fix some things next week."

Taylor Grote scored 13 points to lead Shawe while Jenna Armstrong and Katelyn Moore had four each.

It was only the fourth time that Shawe and Lanesville have met in girls basketball. The Hilltoppers won each of the previous three meetings including a 101-33 victory during the 1992-93 season, the second most points ever scored by Shawe.

The Hilltoppers (4-10) host Trinity Lutheran today.
